President to pay a visit to Sewickley Heights
You never know who's going to come down the campaign trail through Pittsburgh. Turns out President Bush -- who isn't even on the ballot -- is dropping in on a private fundraiser at a private residence in Sewickley Heights tomorrow.
The White House says the president will attend The Pennsylvania Victory Reception to raise money for the Republican Party. Mr. Bush is not expected to make public remarks during the brief visit.
Leave questions to the pros
Chelsea Clinton was wrapping up a question-and-answer session at Indianapolis' Butler University yesterday when some guy asked if her mother's credibility had been hurt by the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the -- I don't know -- maybe 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," she said during a campaign visit for her mother, Democratic New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Her response was met with loud applause from the audience of 200. After the applause, she said, "And I also don't think that should be the last question." She took another question about global warming and ended the event.
Another torch passed
Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain was in California last night to pick up the endorsement of former first lady Nancy Reagan. Oh, and he also did a little fund-raising.
"John McCain has been a good friend for over 30 years," Mrs. Reagan said. "My husband and I first came to know him as a returning Vietnam War POW, and were impressed by the courage he had shown through his terrible ordeal. I believe John's record and experience have prepared him well to be our next president."
