NFL Notebook: Johnson skips Bengals' workout
Cincinnati receiver wants to be traded
Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Chad Johnson skipped the start of the Bengals' offseason workouts yesterday, the latest move to show he's unhappy with how he's perceived in Cincinnati.

Johnson said in interviews last week that he is skipping the voluntary workouts to reinforce his message that he would like to play somewhere else. The Bengals have said repeatedly that they have no intention of trading him.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who tied for the NFL lead in receptions with 112 last season, also is skipping the voluntary workouts for the second year in a row. Johnson has been a regular at the workouts until now.

Titans

Tennessee started its offseason program without All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The Titans designated Haynesworth as their franchise player Feb. 20, but he is not under contract. The only way Haynesworth can take part would be to sign a tender worth approximately $7.8 million, or 120 percent of his salary for 2007.

49ers

San Francisco forfeited its fifth-round pick in the NFL draft next month after commissioner Roger Goodell deemed them guilty of tampering with Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs. Goodell also determined the teams will switch picks in the third round of the April 26-27 draft. Chicago, which had the 12th pick, will get San Francisco's seventh pick and the 49ers will get Chicago's choice.

Texans

Former Jacksonville quarterback Quinn Gray signed a one-year contract with Houston, giving the Texans another experienced backup behind starter Matt Schaub.

Redskins

Washington agreed to terms with offensive lineman Jason Fabini. Fabini signed with the Redskins last season as a backup, but he ended up starting 13 games following injuries to Randy Thomas and Jon Jansen.

Elsewhere

The prosecutor in Michael Vick's state dogfighting case expects a new trial date to be set today. The trial originally was scheduled for April 2.
