
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Pitt women's basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
The Panthers advanced courtesy of a 67-59 upset of No. 3 Baylor tonight at The Pit in an NCAA Basketball Tournament second round game.
Shavonte Zellous scored 19 points and Marcedes Walker added 17 to lead the Panthers. Pitt took a 30-28 lead early in the second half and controlled the game the rest of the way, never relinquishing their lead.
Pitt (24-10), which entered as the No. 6 seed in the Spokane Regional, will face the winner of No. 2 seed Stanford and UTEP next weekend in Spokane. The Lady Bears (25-7) were the No. 3 seed in the region.
