84 Lumber closing out-of-state stores
Monday, March 24, 2008

84 Lumber said today that it had closed nine stores as a result of consolidations in six markets.

The nine sites closed as a result of consolidation are in Frederick, Md.; Seabrook, Md.; Omaha, Neb.; Covington, Ga.; Loveland, Colo.; Tampa, Fla.; Sarasota, Fla.; and two locations in Sacramento, Calif. A tenth store in Santa Rosa, Calif., will close due to a drop in home starts.

In January, the Washington County building materials supply company reported an $820 million drop in 2007 sales. And last year, the company announced more than one round of job cuts at its corporate headquarters in the Eighty Four section of North Strabane and shuttered stores as it braced for a continued slowdown in the housing market.
