CLASSES
Washington -- A free basic boating course, sponsored by the Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, will be from 6 to 10 p.m. April 1 and April 8 in Room 104 at the county Courthouse Square Building, 100 W. Beau St. Those born after Jan. 1, 1982, must successfully complete the course and have in their possession a boating safety education certificate while operating a boat powered by an engine of 25 horse power or greater. CONFERENCES
California -- California University of Pennsylvania Women's Studies Program will host the Audrey-Beth Fitch Conference Thursday at Morgan Hall. It is called "The Other Side of Beauty: Impact on a Woman's Sense of Self." Panel presentations begin at 8 a.m. Keynote speaker author Dr. Linda B. Hall will be at 7 p.m. All events are free.

Peters -- The annual Greater Pittsburgh Home Schooling Conference and Curriculum Fair will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at South Hills Bible Chapel, Route 19. Keynote speaker David Shormann will discuss the digital interactive video educational program. Other topics will be aquatic science and eating habits. The day includes workshops, a mentoring table, book and curriculum vendors and a used book sale. Cost in advance is $15 per person or $20 per couple. Waynesburg -- A fund-raising concert to benefit 6-year-old Jeremiah Queen of New Freeport, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Waynesburg Central High School auditorium. Performing will be Jonathan White and Cindy Sites and Commitment and Christian artist Mountain Man. Mike Lamborne will be painting live. A free-will offering will be collected. SCHOLARSHIPS
Washington County -- High school seniors who have been accepted at and plan to attend a four-year college can apply for the $500 scholarship awarded annually by the Washington County Historical Society. The award is based on a 500-700 word essay about a significant person or event in the county's history. Deadline is April 30.
