Pirates lose to Yankees

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates lost to the New York Yankees, 12-9, tonight in the first night game in the 85-year history of McKechnie Field.

Reviews on playing under the McKechnie lights were a bit mixed.

"They were all right," second baseman Freddy Sanchez said.

They were OK.''

"They're fine," center fielder Nate McLouth said. "I've played under way worse."

"It was hard to judge," right fielder Xavier Nady said. "It was our first night game [of the spring]. It was kind of hard to focus, but it's that way with the first night game anywhere.''

Pirate starter Matt Morris labored through four innings, allowing 13 hits and eight runs. In 13 innings this spring, the right-hander has yielded 29 hits and 13 earned runs.

The Yankees decided the game with four runs in the eighth inning off Byung-Hyun Kim, who yielded two more home runs. In four innings this spring, the right-hander has allowed five home runs.
