A Rochester man was arrested last night in Florida in connection with a March 8 homicide in Beaver Falls.
James W. Pickens, 27, was picked up by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in the Orlando area at 9:33 p.m. He is charged with one count of criminal homicide in the shooting death of an acquaintance, Christopher Harris, 34.
Mr. Pickens shot Mr. Harris five to six times with a handgun around 3:40 a.m. in the 1100 block of Seventh Avenue, Beaver Falls' main street, police Chief Charles Jones said.
Chief Jones would not disclose specific details about the arrest or how authorities tracked Mr. Pickens to Florida. He said there was an effort among his department, detectives with the Beaver County district attorney's office, and Florida authorities.
It is unclear whether Mr. Pickens will fight extradition.
