The Steelers entertained their first two college football prospects yesterday, both defensive tackles.
Keilen Dykes (6 feet 5, 295 pounds) of West Virginia University and Dre Moore (6-4, 311) of the University of Maryland spent time talking with coaches and scouts at the team's facility.
Yesterday was the first time each NFL team could have college prospects visit their facilities for extended looks. They are not permitted to work out. Each NFL team can invite as many as 30 players between now and the week before the draft, April 26-27.
Scout.com rates Moore as the fifth-best prospect at defensive tackle, and rates Dykes at No. 14.
Also, the Steelers began their informal offseason workouts yesterday that consist of weight training and some brief work on the field.
Minnesota agreed to terms with receiver Robert Ferguson, linebacker Dallas Sartz and defensive tackle Ellis Wyms. Ferguson got a one-year deal to stay in Minnesota after coming to the Vikings from the Green Bay Packers late in training camp last season.
Free-agent receiver D.J. Hackett agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million deal with Carolina as the Panthers continue to upgrade their receiving corps. This former Seahawks wideout chose Carolina over Seattle, Washington and Tampa Bay.
Dan Klecko signed a two-year contract with Philadelphia, which plans to convert him from defensive tackle to fullback.
San Francisco signed receiver Bryant Johnson, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.
Houston traded their sixth-round pick in April's draft to Denver for center Chris Myers. The 6-4, 300-pound Myers was drafted by the Broncos in the sixth round of the 2005 draft.
