District Roundup: California dominates Queens (N.C.)

Theron Colao came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points and lead No. 1 seed and Division II East region host California to a 75-54 opening round victory against Queens (N.C.) yesterday at Hamer Hall.

Jesse Brooks chipped in 14 points and seven assists.

The Vulcans face the winner of last night's matchup between Cheyney and Alderson-Broaddus at 7:30 p.m. today.

Other Division II men's games

Millersville 64, Edinboro 61: Reggie Bates finished with a game-high 22 points for Millersville, which faces Pitt-Johnstown at 5 p.m. today in the East region semifinals at California.

Pitt-Johnstown 83, Mount Olive 54: Chris Gilliam had 21 points and 14 rebounds for No. 7 seed Pitt-Johnstown in its dominating upset win against the No. 2 seed. Pitt-Johnstown held Mount Olive to 31 shooting from the field. Mount Olive was 3 for 33 from 3-point range.

Gannon 73, Drury 56: Junior Kyle Goldcamp, from Central Catholic High, led Gannon with 28 points and seven rebounds in a victory at Allendale, Mich.

Division II women's game

California 68, Anderson (S.C.) 55: PSAC West Rookie of the Year Kayla Smith scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the Vulcans earned a berth in the East region title game.
