The Steelers might not have enough money under the salary cap to sign free agents, but they keep parading them through their South Side facility.
Outside linebacker Keyaron Fox, an unrestricted free agent who played the past four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, is the latest player to meet with the coaching staff. He was at the Steelers' offices yesterday, looking for a new team after Chiefs coach Herman Edwards promised to overhaul the Kansas City roster after a 4-12 season.
Fox's arrival is unrelated to any development involving Pro Bowl linebacker James Harrison, who was arrested on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief Sunday in an incident involving his girlfriend, Beth Tibbott, of Ohio Township.
Fox (6-3, 235 pounds) appeared in only 10 games last season, registering 21 tackles (19 solo). However, 10 of those came in the season finale against the New York Jets.
He would be a backup linebacker and special teams player if he signs with the Steelers, who last week re-signed Andre Frazier, another backup outside linebacker.
Fox, who can play both outside positions, was drafted by the Chiefs in 2004 in the third round. He had 376 career tackles and forced six fumbles during his college career at Georgia Tech, where he also played defensive end in pass situations.
The Steelers have had six players visit them since free agency began last week, even though there is little cap room after signing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to an eight-year, $102 million contract. The only free agent free-agent to sign with the Steelers is former Minnesota Vikings running back/kick returner Mewelde Moore.
