Groups to sue to halt coal power plant
Friday, March 07, 2008

The Sierra Club, the Washington-based Environmental Integrity Project, a nonprofit public interest group, and others notified Robinson Power Co. yesterday of their intent to sue over the $425 million Beech Hollow waste coal-fired power plant in Washington County.

Robinson Power has failed to file required construction plans with the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to Tom Wolper, the Sierra Club's energy initiatives chair in Pennsylvania.

The groups seeks to require the power company to submit its plans. If it then turns out the plant can't be built by a 2010 deadline set by the DEP, then the groups want the DEP to revoke its permit, Mr. Wolper said.
