Even though the Steelers have little room under the salary cap and have said there's little chance they'll spend much money on free agents, they continue to exercise their right to meet with them.
Two more players paid visits to the Steelers yesterday, and both left the way they came in -- as unrestricted free agents without a contract:
Rex Hadnot, a 6-foot-2, 325-pound starting center/guard from the Miami Dolphins.
Linebacker Tracy White, 6-0, 236, has been a special-teams standout for the Green Bay Packers, particularly on the kick- and punt-coverage units.
They are the third and fourth free agents to visit this week, including the only one who signed, running back Mewelde Moore of the Minnesota Vikings.
After Moore's signing, coach Mike Tomlin was asked Monday if any more signings were imminent, and he said, "Don't hold your breath."
Hadnot started all 16 games for Miami last season and has been a three-year starter. The Steelers would love to sign someone who can play guard and center and play either well enough to challenge center Sean Mahan for his starting job or be their No. 1 backup on the inside.
The Steelers have a dire need at guard after the loss of Alan Faneca to the New York Jets in free agency. Chris Kemoeatu will replace Faneca at left guard; Kendall Simmons starts at right guard, but there's no other experienced guard on their roster.
White, a fifth-year pro who played at Howard University, is an outside linebacker as well as special-teams standout, an area in which Tomlin has vowed to improve.
