Councilman proposes funding measure for CCAC
Wednesday, March 05, 2008

Allegheny County Councilman William Robinson has introduced legislation that would require the county to contribute up to $1 million a year in matching funds toward a tuition stabilization program for Community College of Allegheny County.

Mr. Robinson, who is vice chairman of CCAC's trustees board, is proposing that the county establish a program providing a 50 percent match of specified funds raised by CCAC with the goal of keeping the college affordable. A statement issued by Mr. Robinson yesterday said such a ratio could mean up to $3 million a year as a buffer against rising costs.

CCAC's administration, citing those costs pressures, is expected to seek school trustees' approval tomorrow for a 4 percent tuition increase.
