District Roundup: Carnegie-Mellon men defeated by Rochester

The Carnegie-Mellon men's basketball team dropped a 74-67 decision against visiting Rochester yesterday in Division III University Athletic Association play.

Rochester (20-5, 9-5), ranked No. 15 in the country, got a 24-point, 11 rebound performance from Uche Ndubizu.

Carnegie-Mellon, which was out-rebounded, 41-27, was paced by Baldwin High School graduate Ryan Einwag, who scored 21 points.

Men's highlights

Penn State New Kensington finished sixth in the USCAA tournament with a 63-56 loss against New Hampshire Technical Institute in Portland, Maine. Jeremy Hurt led PSU-NK with 16 points. ... Edinboro (23-5, 12-1) clinched the top seed out of the PSAC Western Division with an 80-77 victory against visiting California (22-6, 11-2). Gil Cummings scored 23 points to lead Edinboro while Joseph Jones added 17. California's Ron Banks scored 30 and had 14 rebounds. ... Clarion (16-11, 7-5) pulled off a 93-90 overtime win at Slippery Rock (7-20, 8-8) in PSAC-West play. Freshman Mike Sherry, from Chartiers Valley, led Clarion with 19 points. ... Penn-State Behrend (23-4, 15-3) won the AMCC championship with a 57-54 victory against visiting Lake Erie College (18-9, 13-5). Kevin Buczynski led Behrend with 20 points.

Women's highlights

Thomas More (28-0) won the PAC championship with a 65-58 victory against visiting Westminster (17-11). Emilee Ackerman led the Titans with 21 points and 13 rebounds. ... Carnegie-Mellon (7-18, 0-14) finished the season without a win in UAA play, losing its season finale, 55-49, against visiting Rochester (20-5, 10-4). The Tartans were led by Leah Feola's 12 points.
