Friday, February 29, 2008

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Fans from across the region poured into Downtown Pittsburgh on Friday for a fitting tribute to Myron Cope, who died Wednesday of respiratory failure at the age of 79.

Urged on by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and surprise guest Dan Rooney, owner of the Steelers, fans waved their Terrible Towels to honor the man whose 35-year career as a broadcaster and personality elevated him to icon.

They gathered to honor Mr. Cope, legendary also as a journalist, on the steps of the City-County Building on Grant Street.

This video offers a look at the rally, which began at noon.
