Former teacher's aide sent to jail
Bond revoked after she tried to contact youth

Bond was revoked Wednesday for a former teacher's aide charged with drug violations and corrupting minors after the suspect reportedly tried to contact one of the teenage boys she is accused of victimizing.

Abbie Jane Swogger, 34, of Harrison, was sent to the Westmoreland County Prison following a hearing before District Judge Frank Pallone in New Kensington.

New Kensington police said they found cocaine, beer and teenagers in a hotel room rented by Ms. Swogger on Feb. 22.

She was charged with possession and possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and four counts of corruption of minors.

Ms. Swogger, formerly an exotic dancer, had been a teacher's aide in the Highlands School District. She resigned that post a day before she was charged.

Judge Pallone originally had set her bail at 10 percent of $25,000. He allowed her to be released from custody, pending a preliminary hearing, under conditions that she not contact any of the youths who had been in the hotel room that night, and that she not leave her residence except for necessities, said her defense attorney Duke George.

A 15-year-old girl who was not involved in the original case told Judge Pallone at Wednesday's hearing that she contacted Ms. Swogger on Tuesday night with the intention of helping her with her criminal case, Mr. George said.

Their conversation led Ms. Swogger to solicit the girl's help in getting a cell phone to a 17-year-old boy who had been in the hotel room.

When authorities learned of the attempted contact, the hearing was called and Ms. Swogger's bond was revoked.

Mr. George said he had just gotten his client out of jail on bond when she was contacted by the 15-year-old girl.

"It makes it very suspect because the girl calls my client and says she wants to talk about the case," Mr. George said. "She testified [at the bond revocation hearing] that she doesn't like my client."

Judge Pallone ordered Ms. Swogger to remain in jail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled Thursday, unless or until her attorney successfully petitions Common Pleas Court for another bond hearing before then.
