Anglers are reminded that fishing ends on Approved Trout Waters tonight at midnight and will resume at 8 a.m. April 12. (In the southeastern region opening day of trout season is March 29.) Waters in the Early Season Trout Stocked Program will remain open to fishing through March. Fishing is allowed year-round on the following project waters, many of which will be stocked in coming weeks: Catch and Release Only, C/R Fly Fishing Only, C/R All Tackle, Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only, Trophy Trout Project, All Tackle Trophy Trout, and Wild Brook Enhancement Program. For details, visit www.fishandboat.com. As ice fishing continues on area lakes, anglers are advised to exercise caution when venturing onto frozen surfaces.
Lake Erie: Quite a few ice anglers were on Presque Isle Bay yesterday. Nice catches of perch were reported off the second and third parking lots, the yacht club and in about 18 feet off the Niagara boat launch, where one angler iced 20 perch. The head of the bay has been yielding bluegills, bass and perch. Steelhead are being taken throughout the bay and stocked trout are in the East Basin and West Basin ponds. Crappies have been coming in Misery Bay and the head of the marina. Although skim ice has covered the tributaries in recent days, open water in several places last weekend allowed for limited steelheading. For updates, call Poor Richard's at 814-474-5653.
Allegheny County (Warren County): Gary Wert of Jamestown reported nice catches of walleyes up to 6 pounds in the tailwaters of the Kinzua Dam in recent days.

Glade Run Lake (Butler County): Carl Schultz and Steve Visomirsky, both of Shaler, report nice numbers of trout -- up to two dozen each -- ice-fishing minnows and wax worms in recent days. The crappie bite was disappointing.

A 47-inch muskie was released near the Beaver Valley Marina.
