Same old story: Snow, cold delay many schools, commute
Wednesday, February 27, 2008

It's just another winter day in the neighborhood.

Once again, snow, cold temperatures and wind are putting the brakes on the morning commute and causing many school districts to operate under a 2-hour delay.

Motorists should watch for icy conditions on some roads, though major highways appear to be in good shape. Winds from the northwest to as high as 25 mph could blow snow across previously cleared roadways. Another inch of snow could fall during the day.

A snow advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. tomorrow in Westmoreland, Somerset and Fayette counties. Garrett County, Md., and Preston County, W.Va., are under a heavy snow warning. Snowfall totals of 5 to 8 inches are expected.

Check out the latest conditions and forecast. Commuters also can access the updated traffic conditions.

See information about school closings and delays on KDKA.com, the Post-Gazette's news partner.

And if you need something to look forward to -- spring arrives at 1:49 a.m. March 20. Hang in there for another three weeks.
