The dinosaur skeleton had been off display since 2005, allowing for the construction of the new dino hall and exhibition, "Dinosaurs in Their Time."
During its hiatus, T. rex had been cleaned and repositioned. Since January, workers had painstakingly reassembled the creature bone by bone.
With Tuesday's installation of the head, the skeleton is complete.
Officials said its return also signals the start of phase two of the "Dinosaurs in Their Time" exhibition.
