Car theft note prompted Seneca Valley lockdown
Thursday, February 21, 2008

Police said two Seneca Valley high school students stole a vehicle and left a threatening note at the residence of the car's owner Tuesday, leading to the lockdown of the Seneca Valley School District's main campus.

Police stopped the two boys, both 17, in the stolen vehicle in Wythe County, Va., at about 10:50 a.m. yesterday with a 15-year-old girl from Cranberry. Police found a .20-gauge shotgun in the vehicle. The boys were charged with theft and possession of a weapon by a minor, among other things, and were being held in Wythe County awaiting transport back to Butler County.

Jackson Township Chief of Police Len Keller said they knew who stole the vehicle Tuesday morning because one of the suspects had been involved in an incident the day before at the high school. The note that was left indicated "the use of firearms" and injuring people, Chief Keller said, so the Seneca Valley main campus was locked down as a precaution until 10 a.m.

Police also believe the two boys are responsible a jewelry theft several weeks ago. Police did not identify the three teens.
