Frigid weather is causing area lakes to refreeze. Limited ice angling resumed on some fisheries midweek, although snowfall that can mask weak spots presented other challenges. Anglers are advised to exercise caution when venturing onto ice. For safety tips, visit www.fishandboat.com and www.keystonecrappie.com
Lake Erie: Ice anglers returned to parts of the bay in recent days, with Misery Bay and Horseshoe Pond yielding slab crappies, bluegills and largemouth bass, and the marina area producing bass, northern pike and nice crappies. Two anglers fished the head of the bay Wednesday, but ice was thinner than elsewhere. Last Saturday's milder weather brought fresh steelhead and a lot of anglers to the tributaries. Sunday's change in weather ended fishing action on the streams. For condition updates, call BAC at 814-474-3992 or Poor Richard's at 814-474-5623.
