A jealous husband or a photographic hoax?

Pittsburgh police are investigating a photograph posted today to the Post-Gazette's Web site of a couple kissing accompanied by text implying that the wronged husband would offer a scholarship "if anyone is interested in doing me a favor."

The photograph in "Posted" was found about 11:15 a.m., said Jody Farr, the newspaper's Webmaster. According to the Web site, 53 people viewed the posting before it was removed. "Posted" is a feature on www.post-gazette.com that allows readers to upload personal photographs to be shared with other online viewers. The Web site feature is routinely checked by employees in the paper's Interactive Media department, Mr. Farr said, but it also relies on the public policing itself.

"We've gotten other photos that were distasteful," Mr. Farr said, "but we've never gotten anything like this."

The often ungrammatical text accompanying the photograph intimates that the man in the photograph is from New Hampshire and traveled to Wyoming "to have an affair with my wife after 20 years of marriage ... there is a free o solarship if anyone is interested in doing me a favor ... please do me a favor."

Police are continuing to investigate.
