Power problem closes courthouse, postpones Wecht trial
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

The U.S. Courthouse in Downtown Pittsburgh is closed today because of a power problem, postponing the ongoing trial of Dr. Cyril H. Wecht.

Robert Barth, clerk of courts, said water seeping from the garage level into a sub-basement blew out a fuse. Repairs were expected to last most of the day.

In addition to the Wecht trial, two other trials and jury selection in another were postponed.

A post office in the building was open this morning, but that could change.

Anyone with business at the courthouse should call 412-644-4700 after 5 p.m. today for a recorded message about whether the building will be open tomorrow.

Dr. Wecht has been on trial on charges he used his public office as Allegheny County coroner for private gain.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
