Penguins center Sidney Crosby practiced with the team today at Mellon Arena, three weeks after he sustained a high sprain of his right ankle.
Crosby wore a yellow non-contact jersey.
"I feel pretty good, but I'm definitely not ready to play," Crosby said afterward. "It's going to be a while. Wishful thinking would be a couple more weeks, but I really don't know."
Penguins officials said Crosby's recovery period has not been accelerated from its initial time of six to eight weeks.
Crosby, who skated four times on his own before rejoining practice, said he hopes by being able to work out with his teammates he will be able to play soon after his injury heals rather than taking a lot of time to work on conditioning.
Also today, the Penguins reassigned forward Tyler Kennedy to their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton farm club. He has missed eight games because of mononucleosis.
