Chet Welch, a pageant coach from Ford City, is one of the 20 castaways competing in "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans Vs. Favorites."

CBS's "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" got off to an entertaining start, thanks not only to the familiarity of the favorites but also the enthusiasm of the fans. But I can only imagine how disappointed CBS executives were when villain Johnny Fairplay asked his fellow tribemates to vote him out so he could return home to be with his pregnant girlfriend. Fans at home were likely disappointed, too. Kinda lame and may not bode well for the rest of the season. I suspect that was Fairplay's intent: Sucker CBS into inviting him back and then ruin their plans immediately.

Another Western Pennsylvanian is on the show this season. Chet Welch of Ford City is on the fans team. He didn't get a lot of air time in the premiere. Mostly he was just the object of uncomfortableness by the weirdest member of the Favorites tribe, Kathy, who's overly fascinated by the fact that Chet is gay.

"I've never been friends with a homosexual," Kathy marveled, noting she may have worked with a gay bartender in the '80s. Chet seemed nonplussed by her weirdness, but it's clear she makes everyone else uncomfortable, already earning the nickname "the crazy lady."

"I hope you can be my first gay, male friend," Kathy said, giving Welch a hug.
