Parkway not expected to flood tonight
Wednesday, February 06, 2008

Due to revised forecasts and lower than anticipated river levels, the westbound Parkway East is not expected to flood tonight as earlier feared.

PennDOT announced late this afternoon that the Parkway portion near Downtown should be open for tomorrow morning's rush hour. If any flooding does occur in that so-called bathtub area, it is expected to occur late tomorrow evening.

Expected flooding on the 10th Street Bypass is also not expected to occur until later tonight -- between 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. -- if at all, PennDOT said.

The Mon Wharf, however, is flooded and will remain closed through the week.

PennDOT officials have kept their eyes on the rivers throughout the day as rain was persistent.

The Connoquenessing Creek today spilled over its banks near Zelienople in Butler County and the Fombell area of Beaver County. State Route 1015 (Hartzell School Road) from Sunflower Road in New Sewickley Township to Fombell Road in Franklin Township and state Route 1006 (Mercer Road) from Route 65 to Route 288 in Franklin Township, Beaver County were closed in both directions due to flooding, said Jim Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman.
