The suspense surrounding Terrelle Pryor's college decision might finally be over tomorrow afternoon.
Pryor, the all-everything quarterback at Jeannette High School, said he is "80 to 90 percent sure" he will announce his college decision at a news conference at noon tomorrow at the school's gymnasium.
Tomorrow is the first day high school seniors can sign a binding letter of intent with a college, but Pryor was thinking about waiting a week or so to announce his choice because he said he wasn't sure. He was contemplating making a visit to the University of Oregon.
But Pryor said yesterday he will not visit Oregon and the Ducks are out of the picture. He said Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are his final three choices. Although it has been thought Ohio State and Michigan are his top two choices, he said, "It's not down to two." Pryor claimed Penn State is still in the running.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez both attended Pryor's basketball game Saturday night, and Pryor met with both after the game in the locker room.
"I talked to them for maybe 5-10 minutes each, and then I left," Pryor said.
ESPNU and CSTV plan to carry Pryor's decision live. Sports Illustrated, the Washington Post and newspaper reporters from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan also plan to attend.
Although Pryor said he is not totally sure he will announce his choice tomorrow, Jeannette school officials are proceeding with plans to have a news conference. Jeannette principal Stu Albaugh said only media members and Pryor's invited guests will be permitted to attend the event. The public will not be allowed in the school.
Montour running back-linebacker Christian Wilson has decided he definitely will not attend Michigan and will choose between North Carolina and Boston College.
Wilson made a verbal commitment to Michigan in August but had second thoughts when Rich Rodriguez became coach. North Carolina appears to be Wilson's favorite.
Norwin fullback-linebacker Tyler Urban has made a switch and decided to attend West Virginia. He committed to Maryland last summer, but had a change of heart and recently accepted a scholarship to play for the Mountaineers.
Gateway receiver-defensive back Jon Pryor committed to Kent State.
Superintendent meets players
Patricia Gennari, superintendent of Penn Hills schools, met Thursday with the school's football players to get their feelings on the coaching situation.
A few weeks ago, the Penn Hills school board decided to open coach Neil Gordon's position, despite his successful record of 156-74-2 in 21 seasons. The board directed Gennari to inform Gordon of its decision.
The mother of starting quarterback Tom Fulton said Penn Hills' players were instructed not to talk to the media about their meeting with Gennari.
Some Penn Hills residents are upset at the board's decision and want to be heard at a meeting. The school board has a public meeting at 7, and the football coaching situation is on the agenda.
Gordon said yesterday he has reapplied for the job, and Penn Hills also is accepting applications from other individuals.
