Jackie Babe

Mt. Lebanon

Check this out: One of the top girls' basketball guards in the state and a Duquesne recruit, Babe scored 20 points in Monday's victory against Bethel Park and 13 in a win last Thursday against Baldwin. A senior, she has helped the Blue Devils to a 21-1 record and five consecutive wins after they started 16-0. Her two older brothers, Bill and Brandon, formerly played for the Mt. Lebanon boys' team.

How much do you owe to your brothers? A lot. Bill never really played me all that much, but Brandon would play me one on one a lot. They made me tougher, I wasn't allowed to complain and definitely not allowed to cry.

How many jump shots did you take per day this summer? I did a ton of shooting. I am guessing, on average, 200 to 300 shots. Actually, probably even more than that.

Are you excited that you will play for Suzie McConnell-Serio next year? She is one of the best coaches that I will ever come in contact with and having her as my coach will be phenomenal. She will be demanding, but I know she will make me better.

What should the WPIAL transfer rule be? If you transfer based on a decision to play sports at a different school, you should sit out for a year. I don't think it is fair when people leave a school and go to another one just because of athletics.

Dan Conley

Burgettstown

Check this out: Conley is the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked wrestler in the WPIAL Class AA 215-pound division. He has a 15-4 record after finishing fourth in the WPIAL tournament a year ago. Conley also was a standout running back-linebacker in football and coaches selected him the MVP of the Century Conference this past season. He has not decided on a college yet, but hopes to play football in college.

You probably get asked this a lot, but football or wrestling? Honestly, my heart is with football. I enjoy even having hard practices in football.

What is better -- a pin in wrestling or a touchdown in football? It's funny because they're both worth six points. But I'd have to say a touchdown in football.

Any crazy stories about cutting weight for wrestling? When I was in eighth grade, I was wrestling at 165 pounds. It was 3 o'clock the day of a match and I had to lose 7 pounds to make weight. I made it, though. I ran and ran and ran. I ran in the wrestling room. I did sprints in the gym. I jumped rope. I did pushups and situps. I had, like, four sweatshirts on, two hats, gloves, wool socks.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? I'd say Ocean City, Md.

People might be surprised to know that you ... Play video games a lot. I'm kind of a bigger type of guy and I don't always have the nicest look on my face, so people probably think I wouldn't be the video game type.
