Monroe takes over at South Allegheny
Friday, January 18, 2008

Former Duquesne High School football coach Pat Monroe, 47, was hired last night as the new coach at South Allegheny High School.

Monroe coached at Duquesne for 15 seasons, from 1992 until the school closed after the 2006-07 school year. The Dukes compiled a 118-51 record and qualified for the WPIAL playoffs 11 times under Monroe. They also won the WPIAL and PIAA titles in 1993 and the WPIAL title in 2005.

In addition to his football duties, Monroe has been hired as a special programs coordinator at South Allegheny.

"I wanted to be able to do what I did for so long, and this South Allegheny opportunity is a great one at a school district I have a lot of respect for," Monroe said.

"I can be certain that myself and our staff will work just as hard as we did at Duquesne High School. We will try to reach great heights on the football field."
