Producers Guild selects its top five movies
Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Jon Stewart will host the Academy Awards Feb. 24.

The Producers Guild of America yesterday announced nominations for its top honor: "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood."

The winner of the PGA's Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year award will be announced Feb. 2 and is seen as a possible sign of Oscar success. However, a year ago, "Little Miss Sunshine" took the producers' honor, but "The Departed" won the Academy Award as best picture.

The awards season got off to a strange start on Sunday with the Golden Globes announcements, but there's plenty more ahead:

• Jan. 26: 60th Directors Guild of America Awards.

• Feb. 23: Film Independent 2008 Spirit Awards. Airs uncut, uncensored and commercial-free on IFC starting at 5 p.m., with an edited re-broadcast of the ceremony later that evening on AMC.

• Feb. 23: Razzie Awards "honoring" the worst movies and performances.
