The board of trustees for Butler Health System has appointed two new members, Robert M. Smith, and Patt-Ann Kantermar.

Retiring from the board are chairman William D. Bessor, Joseph F. Huth and Donald S. Shamey. Elected to a one-year term as board chairman to replace Mr. Bessor is Fred Y. Bennitt.

Judy Moser, Butler County register of wills and clerk of Orphans' Court, has won a gubernatorial appointment to the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commissioner's County Records Committee.

She will represent the state Registers of Wills & Clerks of Orphans' Court Association on the board.

The committee deals with putting into effect protocols for records retention, including for county and court offices records.

Ms. Moser was unanimously nominated by the state association for her knowledge and experience in records management issues. She co-chairs the county Records Improvement Committee and authored its long-term disposition plan.

• Pine Richland School District's director of fiscal & management services, Doug McCausland, and business manager, Dana Siford, made presentations at the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials.

Mr. McCausland and Ms. Siford instructed attendees on the "Elements of Governmental Fund Accounting," during the association's 2007-08 workshop, held in the fall at the Four Points Sheraton Inn Pittsburgh North in Marshall.

Ms. Siford was treasurer for the regional chapter of the association in 2007. This year, she'll serve as the vice president and next year will be the president.

• Hance Elementary School teacher Megan Kruth, of McCandless, ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., recently.

Ms. Kruth, who teaches second grade, spent 16 weeks training and earned a finisher's medal.

In all 20,000 people finished the marathon.

Hance Elementary is in Pine-Richland School District.

Steven Smith, principal of Haine Middle School in the Seneca Valley School District, has received a commendation for his leadership and dedication to education from The Pennsylvania School Study Council Inc.

Mr. Smith, who also has been principal of Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School in the district, was nominated by peers and received the commendation based upon his outstanding serve to public education.

The study council is a partnership between Pennsylvania State University and member school districts, intermediate units and area vocational-technical schools.
