PG South: KO grad gives boost to Pioneers

Keystone Oaks High School graduate Dan Muto, a senior at Point Park University had another solid weekend for the Pioneers men's basketball team.

A 6-foot-7 guard/forward, Muto hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer in a thrilling 76-75 win over Rio Grande College in Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

He finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. In a loss in a rematch of last year's American Mideast Conference championship game, Muto chipped in 17 points and had four steals against NAIA Division II No.19-ranked Cedarville.

For the season in 16 starts, Muto is averaging 13.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest.

Point Park (9-7) opens conference play Saturday at 4 p.m. as the Pioneers face Notre Dame of Ohio at CCAC South Gymnasium.

National honor for Orstein


Washington & Jefferson College five-time national champion senior Kaitlyn Orstein, a Mt. Lebanon High School graduate, was recently selected as the Collegeswimming.com National Collegiate Division III Swimmer of the Week.

Orstein, who has earned 14 PAC Swimmer of the Week honors in her four years with the Presidents, was chosen for the national award after helping 16th-ranked Washington & Jefferson post a 132-95 victory over Chatham University.

Orstein set a pool record and lowered her previous school record in the 100 butterfly (58.76), while also touching first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.72).

She also swam a leg on the Presidents' 200 medley relay squad which recorded a win in a time of 1:54.00.

Orstein has helped the Presidents to an 8-1 overall record this season, including a 2-0 mark in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
