Firefighters from five communities were called to Molly Brannigans restaurant in Mt. Lebanon this afternoon when smoke emanated from the basement.
Washington Road, a main thoroughfare, was closed from about 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. between Cedar Boulevard and Alfred Street.
The restaurant reopened later in the evening.
Firefighters from Mt. Lebanon, Castle Shannon, Bethel Park, Dormont and Green Tree were on the scene, along with paramedics.
Some Port Authority buses were detoured.
There was no immediate report of injuries.
Firefighters said the fire appeared to be electrical and was inside the walls. They remained uncertain tonight about the source. The basement area has no kitchen or cooking equipment and is essentially vacant.
