Sibling group wins auditions

A quartet of siblings highlighted the recent Pittsburgh Concert Society 2008 Young Artists Auditions. The Fox Chapel-based Hilal String Quartet -- Jad (violin), Leila (violin) Olivia (viola) and Salem (cello) -- is one of winners of the auditions held Saturday.

Other talented local musicians who won are: Indy Bernard (piano, Pine-Richland Middle School); Michael DePasquale (cello, CAPA); Krishna Hegde (piano, Fox Chapel Area High School); Alexander Lee (violin, Trinity High School, Washington, Pa.); Peter Levine (cello, CAPA); Charles Oestreich (piano, North Allegheny Middle School); Erin Schmura (mezzo-soprano, Eastman School of Music); and, John-Marcel Williams (guitar, Harding Middle School, Steubenville, Ohio).

Each winner receives a $500 Perlow scholarship and will perform in a sponsored concert Feb. 3 or March 9.
