Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh officially became UPMC Mercy on Jan. 1. That date also represents the beginning of the 161st year of service for the hospital.

The Sisters of Mercy marked the occasion Thursday afternoon with a celebration of "remembrance, thanksgiving and transition."

The occasion included prayers, music by the Sisters of Mercy choir and the Sisters of Charity bell choir.

A ceremonial candle with three wicks -- one for the Sisters of Mercy, one for the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the third representing UPMC -- was lit.

Bishop David A. Zubic was in attendance.
