Pitt's Fields headed for surgery tomorrow
Off basketball court for two to three months
Sunday, December 30, 2007

Junior point guard Levance Fields has a fractured bone in his left foot and will be out for two to three months. Fields fractured the fifth metatarsel bone in his foot and will have surgery tomorrow.

There is a chance that Fields, who was averaging 11.9 points per game, could recover in time to play a few games at the end of the regular season and in the postseason, if Pitt qualifies.

Fields is the third Pitt player to suffer a serious injury in the past three weeks. Senior small forward Mike Cook had a season-ending knee injury Dec. 20 and reserve forward Austin Wallace also had a season-ending knee injury Dec. 7.

Pitt coach Jamie Dixon is down to nine healthy scholarship players.
