N. Huntingdon bank robbed
Friday, December 28, 2007

Authorities were searching for the man who robbed a North Huntingdon bank yesterday morning while brandishing what appeared to be a handgun.

The robber struck the National City Bank in North Huntingdon Square on Route 30 at 11 a.m., escaping with an unknown amount of money.

Police Chief Michael Daugherty described the robber as black, about 5-feet-8 or 5-feet-9, with a slight build. He wore a white or beige bandanna or handkerchief over his face. The man had on a camel-colored jacket, sunglasses and a dark-colored cap with a tassel.

The man entered the bank, told everyone to "get on the floor" and took money from multiple tellers, Chief Daugherty said. Witnesses reported seeing what they believed was a blue or black gun.

The robber ran away and might have gotten into a vehicle nearby, according to witness accounts. Police did not have any description of the vehicle and were unsure whether the robber had an accomplice.

Authorities were trying to obtain photos from the bank surveillance cameras.

North Huntingdon police were assisted by Irwin police, state troopers and the FBI.
