Jeff Yunetz

Latrobe

Last week: Yunetz scored a career-high 33 points in an 80-62 victory against Penn-Trafford.

Check this out: Yunetz, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound junior guard, is one of the top shooters in the WPIAL. A left-hander, Yunetz set a school record with 65 3-pointers as a sophomore. He is averaging four 3-pointers and 21.3 points a game this season.

What is the most important thing in having a good shot? I think just having everything in line on your shot, and knowing you are going to shoot the ball before it comes to you.

Have you changed your game a little this year? I have. I'm trying to go to the hole a little more.

If you could play at any college, where would it be? With [coach] Roy Williams at North Carolina. I just think he's a phenomenal coach and I've loved North Carolina since I was real young.

What's your best Christmas present ever? I'd have to say when I got PlayStation 2 when I was younger.

Best player you've ever faced? Probably [Jeannette's] Terrelle Pryor.

People might be surprised to know that you ... Love hockey. I like seeing the Penguins and I like playing in Rollerblades when I have time away from basketball.

Jodie Luther

Hampton

Last week: Luther had 15 and 17 points in victories against Highlands and Indiana.

Check this out: Luther is a 6-foot-1 senior and a three-year starter who has helped Hampton to an 8-2 record. She averages 16 points a game and is a force on the inside. She comes from a family of basketball players, including four uncles (Shanahans) who played college basketball. One of her younger brothers, Bill, starts on Hampton's boys' team. Luther also has a 5.0 grade-point average (takes accelerated classes that are weighted more toward grade average).

Your coach, Mary Bukovac, was a very good player in her day. How much has she helped you? She's been very important. She's been my coach since seventh grade because she also coaches the middle school. She was a post player, too, so obviously that helps.

You come from such a big basketball family. Were you expected to play the sport? I never really wanted to play when I was younger, but my mom [Kate] kind of made me. Now I've grown to love the sport, especially because my family is obsessed with it.

Best Christmas present ever? I'd have to say last year when I got a car from my aunt. She just gave me her old car [Toyota 4Runner].

Favorite school subject? Sciences. I think I want to go to medical school someday.

People might be surprised to know that ... [Norwin football-basketball star] Mike Shanahan is my cousin.
