High school students interested in language, math and computers might like to join others with similar focus in the second annual North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad set for Feb. 5 at Carnegie Mellon University.
It's an open round of competition, with students scoring in the top 25 percent returning for another round on March 11. Winners there will be eligible to compete this summer in Bulgaria.
Students need no prior knowledge of computational linguistics; training will be available to interested individuals and schools. The field of computational linguistics includes search engines, computer translation and voice-recognition systems.
