Another longtime Squirrel Hill retailer is leaving the neighborhood. London Dock, which has sold men's and boys' clothing there since 1960, will be gone by the end of January.
Partner Sheldon Wolk, 72, isn't exactly retiring -- just cutting back. He and his brother, Dennis, 68, will consolidate retail operations into the Fox Chapel Plaza site where the company has had side-by-side men's and women's stores for 25 years. "I think it's time for me to just slow down," said Sheldon Wolk.
The shop originally sold boys' clothing. As customers grew up, the store shifted more to men's attire. An abundance of women's clothing stores nearby made it convenient for the female customers who then did most of the shopping for their husbands.
Squirrel Hill's retail district has evolved. There are fewer clothing stores. New restaurants have moved in. "I think the community around here is very strong," said Sheldon Wolk. "They support the street."
Leasing for the 2,500-square-foot site is being handled by CB Richard Ellis/Pittsburgh.
