Pirates, Padres not discussing Bay
Wednesday, December 12, 2007

The Pirates remain open to trading Jason Bay, but they are not, contrary to an ESPN.com report today, "deep into discussions" with the San Diego Padres regarding their All-Star outfielder.

"Completely untrue," a source intimately familiar with the team's recent dealings said this afternoon.

The Pirates and San Diego did briefly discuss Bay last month, to no avail, but the teams' only recent talks have involved Padres catcher Michael Barrett, and those talks did not expand beyond Barrett.

More details in tomorrow's Post-Gazette.
