Thieves withdraw entire ATM from Morningside store
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Pittsburgh police detectives this morning recovered a truck they believe was used to steal an ATM machine from a Morningside convenience store overnight.

A witness called police around 3:40 a.m. today to report the robbery at the Buy 'n Fly market in the 7300 block of Butler Street.

A male suspect used the rear of the truck to destroy the entrance of the store. The truck was seen leaving the scene traveling west on Butler Street.

The witness told police the truck was riding low, an indication that it was hauling something heavy like an ATM machine.

After 9 a.m. today, the truck was found abandoned below the 62nd Street Bridge. The stolen ATM was found with the truck, said Sgt. Kevin Gasiorowski, who heads the robbery squad.

The truck was reported stolen from an owner in Butler County, Sgt. Gasiorowski said.

Police have not determined how much money was taken in the robbery.

No arrests have been made.
