Cannon's absence due to poor health
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

KDKA-TV news anchor/reporter Don Cannon, absent from the air for several weeks, has been attending to unspecified medical concerns.

In a phone conversation two weeks ago, Cannon, 67, said he'd been having "health problems," but he expected to be back on the air last week. Instead, he was hospitalized. No other details are available; Cannon's family and KDKA management would not comment on his condition.

In late July, Cannon appeared disheveled and unable to read the TelePrompTer while anchoring an evening newscast. He disappeared from the station's air after that broadcast, returning in late September as a reporter but not as a weekend anchor.

When Cannon is off the air for a prolonged period, some viewers express concern about his health because of past bouts with depression and alcoholism. Prior to working at KDKA, Cannon was the longtime primary anchor at WTAE-TV.
