Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish holiday beginning on the 25th day of Kislev, according to the Hebrew calendar, began at sundown Tuesday.

The Jewish holiday is marked by the kindling of lights. And that tradition was honored in downtown Pittsburgh with the lighting of the community menorah.

Participants and observers gathered just before dark on the steps of the City/County Building to watch the ceremony.
