The WPIAL champion Jeannette football team could be without two essential players when it faces unbeaten Karns City in a PIAA Class AA quarterfinal at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clarion University.
On their way home from practice Monday night, starting running back Jordan Hall and his cousin, starting center Chris Hall, were involved in an automobile accident in Jeannette, according to Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz.
Reitz said the Halls were "knocked around pretty good but it wasn't a big, major accident or anything."
Reitz did not want to elaborate on the specific injuries to the Halls, but did acknowledge that one, or both, could miss Saturday's game.
"It is up to their parents and the doctors, really that is what the situation is," Reitz said. "They were just dinged up and shaken up some. They have some bumps and bruises and, from what I understand, they got run into by someone who went through a stop sign. It wasn't anything major and the best way to handle it is that we have to prepare as if they are not going to play."
While Jeannette could be without one or both Halls for the Karns City game, on a different front, there is some good news. Mike Matt, Jeannette's standout linebacker-fullback, had been slowed by knee and ankle injuries and played only defense in last week's WPIAL championship victory. Reitz said Matt will be back to playing on both sides of the ball against Karns City.
