Dwight Miller, a 6-foot-8 forward from St. Pius X High School in Houston, has given Pitt coach Jamie Dixon a verbal commitment and is expected to sign a letter of intent by today.
Miller is the final piece to this year's recruiting class. He is the fourth recruit, joining point guard Travon Woodall, shooting guard Ashton Gibbs and small forward Nasir Robinson.
Dixon turned to Miller after two other forward prospects opted to sign elsewhere. Eloy Vargas, the No. 10 prospect in the country according to Rivals.com, signed with Florida and Kevin Jones, the No. 77 prospect, signed with West Virginia. Miller, who is not rated among the top 150 players in the country by Rivals, is considered a player with potential but whose game is not yet refined.
A native of the Bahamas, Miller has been playing organized basketball for only three years. He played his first two seasons at Westbury Christian in Houston and transferred this fall to St. Pius X, a perennial power in Texas.
Miller, who has worked with former NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon, became a prospect with a strong summer season and got on the radar of some other major programs.
Dixon is not able to speak about recruits until Pitt has received their letters of intent. All four letters should be in Pitt's possession today, at which time Dixon will discuss his class in depth. Tomorrow marks the end of the week-long fall signing period.
