Post-Gazette reporter Monica Haynes invited Pittsburgh cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leo McCafferty into the post-gazette.com studio to discuss these risks and to advise prospective patients of the best means to establish a physician's qualifications.

West's mother, Dr. Donna West, an English professor and her son's manager, died last week following eight hours of surgery for a tummy tuck and breast reduction. She was 58.
