Thursday, November 15, 2007

Dr. Roy Kerry arrives at the office of District Justice Cliff Wossener in Slippery Rock.

Dr. Roy Kerry was held for court today on manslaughter charges in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy who was brought to the doctor's Butler County office from England for an unconventional treatment for autism.

Dr. Kerry, whose medical license is being challenged by state officials, continues to practice in Portersville and Greenville, Mercer County, despite the charges that have been pending against him. Those charges include involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Tariq Nadama died Aug. 23, 2005, while undergoing chelation, during which a liquid chemical agent was delivered to his bloodstream by an intravenous push in an effort to remove heavy metals from his body. The treatment is not approved by the Federal Drug Administration. The child died when too much calcium was removed from his blood, causing heart failure.
