Steelers rally to beat Browns, 31-28
Sunday, November 11, 2007

Ben Roethlisberger threw a 2-yard pass to Heath Miller with 3:13 left to cap a Steelers comeback for a 31-28 victory over the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field today.

The Browns' Phil Dawson missed a 52-yard field goal try that was short with six seconds left.

Roethlisberger scrambled on third down up the middle and kept running until he scored a 30-yard touchdown to give the Steelers their first lead with 11:32 left. Roethlisberger then threw a two-point conversion pass to Hines Ward for a 24-21 lead.

However, the infamous Steelers kickoff team botched their second one of the day to allow the Browns to regain the lead. Joshua Cribbs muffed the kickoff and as the ball rolled toward the goalline he ran back and picked it up.

At least five Steelers had a shot at Cribbs inside the five and all missed him, including lead man Allen Rossum. Andre Frazier had the best shot at him along the sideline and whiffed. Cribbs kept running all the way, 100 yards for a touchdown and a 28-24 Cleveland lead.

Cribbs also returned a kickoff 90 yards to set up Cleveland's second touchdown.

The resilient Steelers offense, though, came back to retake the lead 31-28 when Roethlisberger threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Miller with 3:13 left in the game. Roethlisberger kept that touchdown drive going when he completed a 20-yard pass to Miller on third-and-18, and then ran 10 yards to the two on third-and-nine.

The Steelers were behind but closing Cleveland's lead to 21-16 as the third quarter ended in their game today.

The Steelers finally scored a touchdown on their fourth trip of the day inside the Browns red zone. Ben Roethlisberger threw a 12-yard scoring pass to Hines Ward with 6:14 left in the third quarter to cut Cleveland's lead to 21-16.

The touchdown came after linebacker James Harrison forced a fumble by Cleveland's Jamal Lewis, and it was recovered by Ike Taylor at the Browns' 38.

The surprising Browns held a 21-9 lead over the Steelers at the end of the first half.

Jeff Reed kicked his third field goal, from 30 yards, four seconds before halftime as the Steelers offense failed to score a touchdown on three trips to the end zone.

Derek Anderson threw his second touchdown pass of the first half, two yards to fullback Lawrence Vickers to give the Browns a 14-3 lead four seconds into the second quarter.

The short scoring drive was created when Joshua Cribbs returned a kickoff 90 yards to the three, yet another instance of poor coverage by the Steelers special teams.

The Steelers responded with another drive that ended with a field goal, not a touchdown. Jeff Reed kicked his second, from 35 yards, to make the score 14-6.

It was four red zone failures on four tries for the Steelers -- two on defense, two on offense.

Cleveland bumped that lead to 21-6 when Braylon Edwards caught a 16-yard touchdown pass on third down. Officials first ruled that Edwards, who caught the ball over Ike Taylor, did not get both feet in bounds along the right sideline of the end zone.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel challenged the play and after reviewing it, referee Ron Winter overturned the call and ruled a touchdown.
