WPIAL Class AAA: Montour moves into semifinals, beating Trinity 20-7

Christian Wilson reached the 100-yard rushing mark for the 10th time and Montour remained unbeaten with a 20-7 victory against Trinity in a WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal at Canon-McMillan last night.

Wilson rushed for 191 yards on 22 carries and scored twice to help the Spartans (11-0) advance to the semifinals for the first time since 1995. Wilson has 1,725 yards on 254 carries for the season.

Montour, the No. 2 seed, will face No. 3-seeded Knoch in the semifinals next week at a site to be determined. Knoch earned its berth with a 28-7 win against Highlands.

Montour opened the scoring with 6:30 left in the first quarter. Wilson capped a 73-yard drive with a 15-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, and Montour held its narrow 6-0 lead.

The Spartans added to their lead with 3:08 left in the third quarter. Wilson capped a 68-yard drive with a 13-yard run. E.J. Banks ran for the 2-point conversion, and Montour increased its lead to 14-0.

Banks iced the victory with a 3-yard run with 6:47 left. The touchdown capped an 88-yard drive.

Trinity (7-4) scored its only points with 4:08 left on a 2-yard run by Ian Haley. The score capped a 65-yard drive.

Montour accumulated 310 yards in total offense, including 272 on the ground. Banks had 81 yards on 17 carries.

Trinity had 194 yards in total offense, including 121 on the ground. Hillers tailback Mike Yancich was held to 50 yards on 14 carries.
